Members present: Tangul Basar, Steve Bishop, Patrick Chapman, Brian Cunningham, Matthew Frank, Douglas Jones, Erhan Kudeki, Stephen Levinson, Michael Oelze

Visitor:Marie-Christine Brunet

  1. The Curriculum Committee approved the minutes of the February 2, 2007 and February 23, 2007 meetings.
  2. Marie-Christine Brunet gave the Committee an overview of ECE 110 and plans for its revision. Her goal is to engage the students more actively in the department and discipline through a research or interview project that will expose them to ongoing work in an area of interest. She indicated that our department retains only about 55% of our students, and she thinks this may help. In response to a question, she feels that smaller sections in ECE 110 are not needed. The Curriculum Committee applauds her efforts to revitalize the course, but encouraged her not to increase the total workload.
  3. The Curriculum Committee adopted the following resolution:
All ECE core (required) and advanced core (select from a list) courses in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering curricula, other than the capstone design courses (ECE 411 and 445) should be, both in course number and in content, aimed at junior-level (or earlier) students and targeted at the students who will NOT necessarily specialize in that area.
  4. The Committee adjourned at 11:53 AM.
