ECE Curriculum Committee Meeting Minutes for 6 Oct., 2006

1. The Curriculum Committee approved the minutes of the Sept 22, 2006 meeting.
2. The Committee approved the minutes of the May 7, 2006 Curriculum Committee meeting, including the recommendations therein regarding adding biology to the curricula.
3. The Curriculum Committee approved the ECE 498 course proposal by Pramod Vishwanath for Spring 2007, with the suggestion that he consider a Tuesday-Thursday time slot, and with the instructor's option to offer it as a 398 course instead.
4. The Curriculum Committee approved the ECE 498 course proposal by Thomas Huang while it awaits its permanent ECE 417 number.
5. The Curriculum Committee approved the ECE 498 course proposal by Wen-Mei Hwu and the visiting David B. Kirk for Spring 2007.
6. The Committee discussed possible options for obtaining student input and/or involvement, including student representation on the Committee, interactions with existing student organizations or advisory committees, or the formation of a new body. We decided to learn more about already-existing student advisory bodies with which we might work as a prelude to further discussion.

   Chang Liu suggested that we simultaneously consider mechanisms for advisory input from industry or alumni. We again decided to learn more about what mechanisms might already be in place in preparation for future discussion.
